The Our Own English High School (OOL) counseling program is unique due to its two curriculum K-12 CBSE and 5-12 CIE. The mission of OOL’s Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to prepare every student socially, emotionally and academically for present and future challenges.
Students’ are provided with opportunities to gain an understanding of self and others, to participate in educational and occupational exploration in an environment that is safe, caring, and encouraging.
The Counselor works in collaboration with students, educators, parents, and community members to empower students to reach their highest level as productive members of society.
We believe that:
- Every student has the right to have a caring adult advocate
- Every student should feel safe, supported, and accepted
- Every student is unique, capable, and developing as an individual
- Every student, with support, possesses the ability to advocate for themselves and generate solutions to problems
- Students learn through a variety of learning styles, depth and comprehension
- Students should maintain balance between their academic and non-academic lives
- Team work within professional counseling code of ethics and adhere to standards of confidentiality
Career Counseling
Beginning in grade 9, career exploration and university planning take on a prominent role. The counselor reaches out to students and parents for career-exploration, university information sessions and application procedures via My Learning. At the same time, students and parents in grades 9-12 are always welcome to initiate their own contact with the high school counselor.
We are happy to inform you that in the last academic year; we launched the ‘Preparedness for Career Pathways’ (PCP) Programme that is designed to ensure that our students are future-ready. We launched Unifrog in February from grade 10 upwards and conducted workshops for grade 11 and 12 ranging from portfolio making, writing personal statement and like. Unifrog is a
comprehensive digital platform, which brings together all the available information into one single, impartial, user-friendly space to help students make the best choices and submit the strong and effective college applications.
A new online and offline service offers students a one-stop-shop for all university-related matters, from test preparation and career coaching, to application, essay, and interview support.
Newly launched My Path to Uni (MPTU) by GEMS aims to provide students with comprehensive guidance and support for all things relating to university preparations. MPTU is an extensive collection of college and career guidance resources and services that has both an online presence via its website mypathtouni.com and a physical location at GEMS World Academy – Dubai.
MPTU services – the first of their kind in the region – are open to not just GEMS pupils, but all students in the UAE and abroad through both onsite and virtual support. The centre stationed at GEMS World Academy – Dubai will provide comprehensive services, including application support, test preparation, essay and interview support, psychometric testing, career coaching, pathway programmes and experiential opportunities such as internships and work placements.
The MPTU hub at GEMS World Academy – Dubai will be open 4-8pm Sunday-Wednesday and 10am-4pm on Saturdays.

OOL makes every effort not only to ensure a child’s academic success in school but also to prepare them for life beyond our portals. Preparing the world’s future workforce is therefore a significant priority for us and we believe that our curriculum must, prepare our students for a world shaped by monumental everyday changes.
We are happy to inform you that we have launched the ‘Preparedness for Career Pathways’ (PCP) Programme which is designed to ensure that our students are future-ready. Unifrog is a comprehensive digital platform which brings together all the available information into one single, impartial, user-friendly space to help students make the best choices and submit the strong and effective college applications.
As a continuation, we will be having bespoke sessions on several topic related to career pathway for students and parents. We do an in-house internship for the interested students. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in cocurricular activities to supplement their academic program. At OOL, it is expected that students assume responsibility for their own achievements in education while working in partnership with teacher and parent guidance.
